Cruise Control

I have a 2000 7.3. ZF6 tranny. My cruise control has stopped working. whatever keeps my truck from starting without the clutch pushed in, also has quit working. It will start in gear. Could that be related, or completely different problems? About to go on a long trip and I'm trying to get everything sorted. 900 miles without cruise control, oh lord..!

I would say they are the same problem. Your switch on the clutch pedal must be bad making the truck think the clutch is pushed in. That would cause both of the problems you are having

Does anyone know what this switch would be called, and how to go about replacing it? And sorry about bringing up the old post. I've been gone on a business trip. Hotel internet is so freaking slow, my laptop wouldn't even connect.

Also another problem related to my clutch. The clutch when depressed, should be roughly even with the brake pedal. For some strange reason, mine will come almost all the way up to the dash. Talk about a foot cramp!

Switch on clutch arm is much like a brakelight switch, sends a signal to powertrain control module when depressed, completes electrical circuit and allows engine to start like neutral safety switch on an automatic in park or neutral. Also disengages cruise control when depressed so engine does not rev sky-high because driver forgets cruise is on and decides to downshift. Clutch arm travel likely affected by worn, broken or out of adjustment clutch rod, pivot, fork, pressure plate or throwout bearing.

Soon as I get home from the airport tomorrow, I'll crawl under there and see if I can't get some ideas based of off what you've told me. Not that it's going to kill me. But it's definitely driving me insane! I like not having to push the clutch in to start. I like using my cruise control much better.

Not using the clutch to start is a good way to take out the front of a convenience store or get a kid or an old lady on one of those scooters hung under your ride... <:-O
