Alternator X5 for an 02 Excursion???

I recently purchased an 02 Ex w/ 7.3 PSD. I learned from the previous owner that he went through 5 alternators in a few years time. Is there a tsb on alternators or is there something I should know to help renedy the situation?? Something must have been overlooked to have this problem and I am looking to do a preventitive check to make sure everything is right.

never had a prob with my 02 X had it a little over a year now.

If you want to do some Preventative maintenance, I would replace the belt, idler and tensioner. I went through 5 alts in 6 MONTHS with my 03/7.3 two years ago. After the last one, I replaced the pulleys, (Did the belt the first one) and have not had any problems since... they did NOT look or feel bad either,,, but I was down to that as the only other possible reason.
