Won't start

Hi guys,
I have a 2002 F-250 7.3L. The last couple of weeks the battery light would come on and then go off after a few minutes while driving. I noticed the headlights seemed brighter when it would go off.
Yesterday it cranked fine, drove around for a about 20 minutes, let it sit for a few minutes and when I went to crank it all gauges pegged to the far right for a second then came back to normal but the truck wouldn't start, just a clicking sound for a few seconds. I pulled the alternator, took it to O'riellys but it checked out fine.
I tried jumping it off but, same scenario, i'm going to pull the batteries and have them checked. Would bad batteries cause the gauges to do this?
Thanks for any help

It sounds like bad batteries to me. You can use a multimeter to test them.
