Overdrive Switch
HELP!!!!
![]() The overdrive switch mounted in the gear shift lever won't turn on the OD. When I push the gear shift lever toward the dash the switch works. Is this a problem with the gear shift or the OD switch. Can I repair it or take it to the dealer? |

Overdrive Switch
Sounds to me like some trouble shooting is going to be involved. First off you say when you push the shift lever towards the dash it works. HMMM sounds like a short in the wiring or a broken wire. Seems to be more towards a broken wire in the harness and when you move the lever you get a connection with that broken wire. All I can tell you to do is if you are capable. Get a wire diagram and trace the wire inside the truck that goes to the switch and test it before the switch for power at the switch and after the switch for power. If you do not have power before the switch then you need to trace that wire back to where it gets it power from and check it there for power. If you have power at the wires source of current then you have a broken wire that needs to be replaced. You may be able to go to the local parts yard and get a different shift lever with switch and wiring harness that you can put in your truck for a good price. I know that there are 5 Superduties at my local parts yard that I can get this lever and wiring harness from if you need it. I can get it for you for a good price and ship it to you at cost. Let me know if this helps you out.

Your going to need to replace the shift lever, where the wire is coming out of the shift lever it is broken, when moving the lever it is making contact again. This is very common. It is pretty easy to do.
