white smoke and poor mpgs

well **** guys,

i just bought this truck yesterday, 2000 f250 with 130k... i checked for blowby at dealership and took it for a test drive and it seemed to have power. well today after my drive back to laramie towards the end, every time i was at wot i noticed white smoke instead of black... also i got horrible fuel economy. it took me almost a half a tank at 65mph to drive 120 miles....

the temperature gauge shows it being cold still, barely within operating temperature, its also -20 outside.. thoughts??

Sounds like the thermostat has gone bad and your engine is running below normal operating temperature. But at -20 F degrees the fuel economy is gonna suffer and you'll see white smoke instead of black.

Yeah I've slowly pieced that together I bought the thermostat today but I'm terrified of snapping a bolt off. I really don't have a shop to work on ot right now and replacing the water pump would be a nightmare.
