Cannot Put Fuel In tank

I cannot get fuel to go into my my 2000 Powerstroke fuel tank except at a very slow flow rate. It takes 3-5 minutes to put 1 gallon in the tank. Any ideas?

where are you filling up? is it a truck stop or somewhere with a high-flow nozzle? if so you need to have it at just the right angle or the flow from the nozzle hits the bend in the filler tube and the auto shut off backs up and catches

I am filllin at a regualr station, not a truck stop. I have filled at the same place for 8 years & no problems. I even went to four different stations to see if that might solve the problem. It did not. I even placed 5 gallons in a fuel can, went to my shop, got a funnel and poured fuel in the tank. It still would not take the fuel any faster than at the station.

check the hose going to the tank and make sure its not kinked. if it is you can usualy un clamp it and twist the kink out of it and re clamp it.

most diesels wont accept full flow rate. the fuel tends to foam up in the fill pipe and shut the pump off but its never taken me that long to pump I can usualy keep the nozel on the first click and it will keep going. some times I have to pull the nozel out a little bit. just play around with it.

In the past I have been able to fuel at truck stops as fast as the fuel would flow.

Check your vent hose, I bet something has built a nest in it or it is clogged. As the fuel goes in the air has to come out so if the hose is blocked it ain't going to work. The vent hose runs right alongside the fill hose. Takes 5 min and three screws to drop it. If yours has the small hole in the metal filler you may want to take a dremel tool and open it up. Then you can use the big boy nozzles!!
