02 7.3 Fan Clutch How to test

Can anyone tell me how to test the fan clutch and /or how it's supposed to operate? I think mine may be the cause of an air conditioning issue when at long lights.

It has a spring that works like a thermostat. When the spring expands it engages the fan. When the spring contracts the fan disengages. The way you test, when the engine is off you should be able to freely spin the fan. If it does not spin freely most likely your clutch is not disengaging. Keeping the fan locked.
