Question Fuel gauge problems

I think my fuel tank sending unit is bad, I had a little over a half a tank of fuel yesterday and when I started my truck this morning it read full. I called my local ford garage and they said that the sending unit and the pump are a one piece deal, like almost 500$
Any one have any other ideas as to what I might be able to do before I swap out the sending unit/ pump?

been there done that, the only thing you can do yourself is pull the tank and check the ohm readings and see if it is working or not. I had to have mine replaced a while back, and it isn't even close to accurate now
