What about the battery cables? I've had battery cables go bad causing hard or no start conditions.

How would i bench test it? and where is it at?
I'd check out the starter solenoid, like Flyin Hawaiin said, before you bench the starter. But here's how to do it.
Bench Testing the Starter: 1st, disconnect your batteries. Your starter is located on the passenger-side of the transmission bellhousing. If you have a heatshield take it off. Disconncet the wiring on the starter. Remove the 3 bolts that hold the starter in. One of the bolts is a real pain to get to. Make sure you have a long enough extension to reach it. Pull the starter out & put it on a clean flat surface. Bench testing a battery is actually better & safer if you can get your hands on a remote starter switch. But if you can't get your hands on one; Here goes: To bench test the starter, you'll need jumper cables & a 12v car battery. Put the (-) cable clamp on one of the ears where the mounting bolts went. Take the (+) & just touch the (+) pole on the starter relay. Don't hold it on too long or the starter will overheat &/or drain the battery. Just give it short bursts & see how it operates & sounds.
