Help! No start, electrical problem

'03 7.3 PSD 144k no mods. I parked my truck in my driveway overnight, the next morning it would not start. When key is initially turned to run, all gauges peg, then return to zero after approx 3-4 sec. When the key is turned to start, it sounds like all of the relays are clicking at the same time. Engine isn't turning over. Changed batteries one week ago. I'm thinking it's a short or grounding issue, but am not sure where to look.

Have you checked to see if you're getting any juice to the starter? Have you checked starter connections? Can you take out your starter & "jump" it?

Is there any bad corrosion around your terminals?

Did all the gauges peg before the battery swap? Because that seems wrong to me. Could be a bad ground (like so many electrical problems). I would recheck all your battery cables and connections.

Yes, the starter is getting power. The battery cables are good, and the terminals are clean and tight. I charged the batteries overnight, truck started. Must have had a bad connection when I tried jumping it. Checking the charging system tomorrow.

Wink Alternator

I went through 3 Willson alternators in 2 weeks with the EXACT problem you are having before going to Ford and getting an OEM...problem solved, been 6 months no problems.

Should be showing between 14 and 15 volts while running on your VOM.
