any time the computer will compensate it should thow a code. and yes the computer will tell them but they will have to know what to look for. so in that case if the sevice manager already knows you then go see him and tell him all that stuff. and if the tech cant figer it out they have a hot line that they can call.

The tech rode with me with computer in hand. Took readings under loaded conditions, empty, excelerating, etc.

He's stumped as well.

I have described all the sounds, demonstrated the rough idle at the rpm, They have told me that it sounds normal, besides the fact of the 4" exhaust.

Personally I think there def.

Can't tell ya how many people ask what's wrong with your truck " it sounds like crap"

I would go to a different shop if possible. It sounds like an injector problem, or HPOP system problem. Shops are capable of testing these things in the truck.

Sorry the is a little long

I've been to a Diesel tech that is a neighbour, He agrees with me that It sounds more like Valves than injectors.

The " popping" as he heard it is consistant with rpm change as well at idle.

This past Monday I did go to another shop other than A ford dealer, I demonstrated the condition to them, the Tech didn't hear it standing by the engine, but definitly heard it from the rear through the exhaust.

They gave me some " Fuel buster " additives to try until the can get me in for service next week. Will keep you up to speed

A simple question for some one. Last year after I had the initial service done, the next week following I went to check my Oil and noticed that the filler neck was off with cap attached. I you remember from the first info I had diesel fuel coming out of the rad overflow.

SO I am assuming that the diesel fuel would have swelled any rubber products and made them loose.

Now the question Is there supposed to be an O-Ring on that filler neck, If So there is not one on mine as I have seen some oil seepage from the bottom of it, The last tech this week asked me were it was.

Is it possible that it has fallen into the engine, and if so what would it do.

There is supposed to be an o-ring between the valve cover and the filler neck, yes. If you run lucas in your oil the o-rings will swell too. The neck just screws into the VC. I used ultra gray to replace my 0-ring and you could too. This doesn't fix your miss but I know the answer to that question so I thought I'd chime in and also wanted to subscribe to an interesting thread.

good luck man, keep us posted.

Just to let everyone know, Still havn't fixed the problem.

Been busy harvesting wheat. As soon as I'm done it's going to a different shop.

And Yes it is still running the same and gradually getting worse. The tech I talked to heard what I am so now it's just a matter of finding it.

I'm stll holding true to the fact that it's valve related.

Will post when I have something new

What about the condition of the glow plugs? That truck has a hydraulic roller camshaft, very reliable setup. Valve lift can be measured easily by removing valve covers and measuring spring travel. Do you remember your compression readings? Only reason I ask, is that if one cylinder had been hydrauliced from previous injector problem. That cylinder might not balance out like the others. That would cause a weak hole that the computer would not find. Trying another shop probably is your best bet. Good luck, and please keep us posted!
