High EGT's at idle or casual driving.

Quite often while idiling or city driving (no load) my egt's will hover around
900, then suddenly drop down to 400 then back up to 900. Does anybody know why this is happening? Faulty temp. sensor? EBPV sticking? P.S. the sensor is mounted inside the driver's side exhaust manifold.

Well, as far as where your thermocoupler's mounted, that's the best location for an accurate reading. It's VERY rare your thermocoupler is faulty. As far as a sticky EBPV, does your truck seem to idle high or irradic? Do you hear a constant 'hush' through your exhaust pipe?
