99 7.3 Has horrible hessitation and Stutter!

I have a 99 f 250 7.3 diesel 4x4. It starts perfect and idles great. When i am going down the road, Once im up aboive about 1300 rpms and i let off the throttle and then hit it again, it shakes violently and has no power until i smash the pedal and once it gets 2 about 1800 it picks back up. If im goin down the road and i let off and let it go under 1000 and then hit the gas again its fine. im stumped. what could it be.

i would start by servicing everything, oil and filter, fuel filter, tranny fluid and filter, run some good injector cleaner like a bg product it is the best i have found and you can pick it up at napa, then you might if that does nothing is go and see if it has thrown any codes,i would say do that first but since you just bought the truck it needs to be serviced anyway.hope that helps.oh yea and the air filter.
