stange noise

I have a strange noise that occurs on occasion and it sound like it is coming from the engine compartment, it sounds like a thud or clunk noise, happens shortly after start-up. doesnt happen all the time though, any idea what it could be, i only have 83k on the truck., '02, automatic

it probably only happens when you have your air conditioner compressor running upon start-up, right?

i dont know man, my dad's 99 is pretty loud at times, but I almost never even hear my 2000, so basically every truck is a little different. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can help you more.

I definitely have the same thing going on. I have a 99 f-250 7.3 PSD. It sort of freaked me out, i have only had the truck for about a month. Still don't know what it is. I have taken it to the shop, but it won't do it there, of course. The guy just told me that if it starts to do it more and more to bring it back, which didn't answer my question. It is definitely a major thud that i get, and it is not necessarily limited to when it is in park, it has done it on occasion as i am just starting off. If you find out what it is please send me a message.
