Unhappy Gas Gange stuck on FULL

My husband has a 2001 F350 Diesel. Ever since we have had it, the gas gange always says FULL. What could the problem be and how do we fix it?

Thanks!

Welcome to Powerstroke.org Seashells! I moved your thread over to the '99 to '03 problems forum. One of our other moderators (Farmboy) has a similar problem and was looking to drop his tank and check it out. Here is the link to his post;

If he's already fixed his I'm sure he can shed some light on what the problem could be.

is the truck parked on an angle all the time...if so the float may have been getting lifted by uneven fuel in the tank and sticking

Welcome to the forum!! Occasionally my guage will go all the way up to full when I know it's nowhere near full. It's done it a few times intermittently the past few months. It reads true after I turn it off and back on most of the time. My buddy told me my sending unit is likely going bad. Maybe yours is bad, not sure!

a fuel gauge stuck on full is usually a bad sending unit(has an open in the circuit). the sending unit has resistance in it, and the lower the resistance, the lower the gauge is. the resistance is set by a floating rod in the fuel tank. it is a relatively simple test if you have a volt/ohm meter.....if you have this electrical testing tool, let me know and ill help you find out if its the gauge or the sending unit.
