4x4 light stays on in cluster

Okay here's the deal. My 99 has the floor shifter with the manual hubs. Last winter the 4x4 light on the guage cluster came on immediately when I shifted it into 4hi, but it would often stay on for several minutes after I took it out. We just had about 7 inches of snow this past week and I had to use my 4wd for the first time this winter. The light didn't come on for quite a while after I shifted into 4 and locked both hubs. The light is still on now and i've double and triple checked the floor shifter, as well as the hubs. Am I missing something?!

Is it engaged in 4wheel drive when the light is off? I mean do the front wheels pull also? If they do don't worry about it in my opinion. If it disengages when you shift out but the light stays on just remember the lock/unlock and shift.

I don't know what the deal is. The light is still on today and once again I double checked.....Floor shifter is in 2....both hubs unlocked. What else is there?! I mean it's not a huge deal I just would rather the light be accurate and I mean on when it's engaged and off when it's not. That's starting to get on my nerves just as much as the failing door locks.......

Maybe the switch is bad on the transfer case?

i had the same problem on my 92 f-150 auto hubs floor shift.
it would stay on for days or sometimes it would not come on at all.
you can tell if the hubs are locked when you turn the wheel so i never bothered with it. I checked the shaft to make sure it was free in 2wd and everytime i checked it was as it should be. just another idiot light.....lol
and wait till the window motors need replaced till you monkey with the locks....at ten years both motors went within 3 weeks of each other....go figure.
