Exclamation 2002 F350 Alternator and trouble codes

P0562 - Low Voltage
P0381 - Glow plug heater indicator circuit
P0603 - ICM Keep alive memory

2002 F350

Last night I was driving home and the ABS light came on. Then my brake controller stopped working. the cigarette lighter LED went out and then the radio, followed by the instrument cluster. Lights, tails, just dead.

Indicative of an alternator, right? I replaced it and it did the same thing within 20 minutes. Tested the old alternator and it's definitely bad. The new one tests good. I tried 2 different alternators just for kicks. Same thing happens every time.

The codes all just mean the batteries are dead or lost voltage so nothing really "telling" about them.

Any help would be appreciated. Did I cook my batteries? I did notice voltage dropped to ~6v while everything was going out and then once I was running blind with no lights the voltage shot up to ~16.2v.

Thoughts, suggestions?

What brand of alt did you put in? Cheap auto part stores tend to be, well, cheap. Its common to go through 2-3 to get a good one for our trucks to like. The new voltage regulator could be quirky.

Thanks for the replies everyone. It turned out that the 3rd one worked. The first two were bad. That's what you get from O'Reilly, I guess. The last one I picked up from Autozone (a re-manufactured one) and it worked great no issues so far.

That's why went with DC Power. Pricey though.

I keep having issues with alternators as well. Oreilly ones kept crapping out. Went through 3 in a week. Then bought a motorcraft from ford. It's working but voltage seems strange to me. My Edge readout shows 13.3-13.6 usually. Occasionally it'll show 14.1 or so.
