Broken Transmission Spacer Plate

Anyone ever have one break? I did...... Went to start the truck turned over once then I just heard the starter spin. Looked under neath and the cast aluminum plate between the motor and trans where the starter bolts to it broke right off with the starter still attached. This truck has been giving me a lot of problems lately and it been a good truck, but I think it's time for a 6.7L...... I'll still have one 7.3L left. It's going to the trany shop for a new plate. I was just wondering if this is common?

I have heard of a few but I don't think it's common.

I just have never seen one break. It didn't even break at a bolt hole.
