OD button problems

Hey guys. I've noticed, with the truck in park. If I push the lever to the dash as far as it will go the button with turn overdrive on and off. But in any other position or gear selection it will not work.

Ay ideas?

I would like to ask also, I push my OD and sometimes it works, sometimes it don't but, the light always comes on. Is there a special speed or brake usage or something on a diesel OBS that is needed prior to the OD working or could i need a new lever also.
