Irratic RPMs

so this morning when i got on base, I was trying to cruise at 30mph, and the RPMs would got up to about 1500 or so then fall to idle then back up then back down! finally I just hit the gas instead of trying to cruise, and it seem to have kick out of it. Has anyone else experienced this? what could be the cause? truck is a 2003, 7.3, extended cab lariat 4x4..
thanks

i had an issue recently similar to this. I couldn't "soft pedal" my truck at low rpms. Mine ended up being a bad ipr valve. If you can get live read outs check the icp pressure and ipr duty cycle percentage.

Late 99, Blackwater long block, forged rods, ARP studs, 910 comp valve springs, stelite valves, 38R turbo, 238/100 hybrids, TS 6 position chip custom tuned by Beans, T500 hpop, FRx, Airdog 150, S&B intake, side piped, edge insight cts monitor, DC2 rims, Crusher tires, BTS transmission, 6.0 31 row tranny cooler, and lots of blue lights!!!!

try cleaning the TPS and its connector..there's alot of grime down at the floorboard to weaken sensor connections.

Mine started this several days ago. I have been monitoring it with my scan gauge. Every time the rpm's get erratic my ipr duty cycle is dropping. Ordered a new ipr from riffraffdiesel.com today. Dealer wanted $250, dieselorings.com was at $205 but sold out. Got it from riffraffdiesel for $178. Talked to Clay at Riff Raff as I wanted to make sure it was a new Motorcraft part same as the one from the dealer. He was super nice and assured me it was a new genuine Motorcraft part.

Got my new IPR today from riffraffdiesel.com Wow that was fast! Thanks Clay! Got it installed and truck is running much better. Only took it for a quick spin but seams to have solved my loss of power and vibration issues as well. I will update tomorrow.

Truck does run 100% better, low end power and throttle response is what appears almost like normal. Still has a slight vibration at low RMP's, but a lot better.
