OK, so my SES light comes on all the time. All I have to do is get on the throttle a little, and it's on. Always soft codes, once I turn the truck off, the light stays off until the next time I get on it. So I invested in a code reader just to see what the codes were. I have tried 3 times now, and even when the SES light is on, the reader doesn't pick up any codes!! In fact, it says that the SES light should be off!! Is this possible, or is something wrong with my code reader? Do you need a special code reader for diesel engines? Anyone have any ideas???????

the code that your getting is probably either injection pressure to high or low or it could be your building to much boost and the pcm is defueling. and about the reader yes you must have a special scan tool to read powerstroke codes. I use a PC based scantool called auto enginuity and it works just about as good as the dealer units as far as running various test and reading codes.
edit: both the codes that I mention are common with a tuner or a chip, an overboost annialater will stop the overboost code and the other you"ll just have to live with unless you go with a big oil setup |

Thanks for the response.
Is it possible that there is no code, and it is just a problem with the SES light? Maybe a short? When the light comes on I am only at 10-14lbs of boost. I wouldn't think that would be too much boost and signal the light to come on. What do you mean "a big oil setup"? |
