WHITE SMOKE AT STARTUP

I HAVE A 2001 F-250 7.3 PSD AND WHEN I FIRST START IT IN THE MORNING I HAVE A DECENT AMOUNT OF WHITE SMOKE COMING OUT UNTIL THE ENGINE WARMS UP. IS THIS NORMAL? IF I LET IT SIT FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS AND THE ENGINE COOLS DOWN IT DOES IT AGAIN UNTIL IT WARMS UP. THIS IS MY FIRST DIESEL AND IT HAS ME ALITTLE WORRIED.

I wouldn't worry about it as long as its running fine once its warmed up. I had five glowplugs that didn't work at all and the winter before I changed them the thing would smoke like crazy, I mean embarassingly bad. It doesn't smoke at all now. Could be you have one or two bad glowplugs. We are talking about WHITE smoke don't forget. If it was blue I wouldn't tell you this.

Okay what about a little blue smoke during warm up. I just thought it was a rich mixture during warmup process.

My truck only does that if it gets down in the teens and I let it sit over night...but if I let cool down and start it, it doesnt really at all.

it could very easily be a glow plug relay, that means it does not llow for the glow plugs to warm up at all.
