Strange Whine, BAD????

Driving around today I floored it to get on the freeway and I heard this loud whine that almost resembles the sound of a supercharger. It gets progressively louder at high rpm and im not sure if its real or in my mind but it seems to have lost some power. I have a 2001 Automatic F250. It just started this today. ANy help?

yes. would that effect the boost pressure? I watched that just to see and it didnt look like it was loosing boost. However, I glanced down at my speedo when I was accelerating and I saw the speed drop about 2 mph and then continued to accelerate.

I had an intercooler boot blow on my big truck and the sound that it made was a big rush of air. When my turbo started going out on my pick up it made a whine/wizzing sound. The bearings were going out on the shaft so the turbo fins were rubbing on the case. Take off tubes going into the turbo and see if you can move the shaft on the turbo. there will be a little play but not much. You might also see marks on the case where it may have rubbed.
Good luck!

I have also noticed a whine in the last month or so that keeps getting louder, my turbo used to have a high pitch whistle now it has a lower pitched and loud whine but I still get 30 psi boost. Whine seems to start around 10-12 psi and get louder as boost increases, seems to be independent of rpm but directly dependent on psi.

When mine started the whining/whizzing sound I pulled the turbo and this is what I found in the exhaust side

It may be time to pull it and inspect the turbo before it is too late and you get stranded in the middle of Nowhere, USA.

And yes, it still made 30psi+ but the sound would get louder with the more boost it made. When I pulled it I could also push it towards the exhaust side and it woudl scrape the turbine housing, lateral thrust, like it is pushing a bunch of boost. Go Figure.....

Check the fluid level in the power steering pump. It will whine if it's very low on fluid.
