Glow Plug Codes

So about 3 weeks ago my truck threw me a p0683 code and I cleared it and it has not come back. But just today it threw me a p0671. Here are my symptoms, its about 20s-30 outside and my truck will start on the first try without being plugged in but sometimes is hard to start (possibly batteries dont know when or if they expired) and will smoke white for about 30-45 seconds upon start but idles fine. Truck also runs fine when its warmed up. I have 182xxx on her and dont know if the glowplugs have ever been changed so are these codes hinting me in on the fact that I need new plugs or is this something a little more serious. Thanks.

Talked to my dad and he is leaning towards just replacing the glow plugs. But that p0683 GPCM is what I'm a little more worried about, but it hasn't come back since it was erased so maybe is was just a hiccup or something?
