Air bag light staying on!!

Hey guys im a newbie on the forums here. Just need some help, i have a 02 7.3 powerstroke, just fitted the TS chip 2 weeks ago and its great! not sure if its related or not but the other day my airbag light came on, its blinks for a while then stays on every time i start up. I have also noted that the airbag on/off switch on the passenger side- no longer lights up??? i guess its related.

I had a friend run his OBDII scan program he has and it picked up no error codes, however his program is more for engine diagnostics and not other things he said.

What do you think it could be? I checked the airbag fuse and it looks good.
Any help would be great!

Thanks

Check the connection on the airbag sensors. Could have corrosion on them. My wifes Taurus does the samething on really damp days. I'm sure it will be a bad connection. Good luck!!

Welcome to the site Britboy!

i agree with the connections, do you have a hanes or chilton manual. that mey help you locate the sensors

i'll go and get a Hanes manual and check the sensor connections- i hope it works.

I checked the error code (i.e the amount of flashes from the display light) and its Code 27 - if that makes a difference.

Hi all great site. I also have the light on and have had it checked by every code reader possible, except the dealer. Everyone tells me they'll try to clear it but it has to be done by the dealer and they are right. The dealership I bought the 99 from said his mechanic overcharged the battery and that trips the light and to just bring it back in and he'll clear it. No time to drive to Jersey for a light right now so I'd be interested to see what our outcome is.

Air Bag Light

Hey... The 27 code is a PADS switch lamp inoperative. The PADS (passenger air bag deactivation switch) will definently cause an SRS light to come on if the switch or lamp is faulty. If you can access the switch, check power and ground to and from the switch. If everything checks out ok, you need a PADS switch. Just be carefull when working with the SRS system. You're supposed to depower the SRS system to prevent accidental airbag deployment. Let me know if you need schematics.

airbag light on

replace the clockspring in the steering column. no way to test it but it is the most likely problem with airbag light coming on. when you see it you will understand.

I fixed that problem this weekend for $2.99 and a 1/2 hour work.

1. Unhook the neg. bat cables
2. remove your radio
3. loosten the two screws above the radio(do not remove them) pull GENTLY on the front of the dash to remove it
4. unplug and unbolt the airbag switch and remove it. It is held by 3 6mm screws.
5. pop the switch case apart w/ a screwdriver. be gentle and don't break the tabs.
6. the little bulb w/ the yellow jacket is blown. I replaced it with a "74" interior bulb from autozone, but radio shack probably has something that will work too.

The bulb IS soldered in and will require some very basic soldering, but there are no diodes or anything that will overheat if you aren't great at this.

I have been told that FORD charges several hundred for fixing this problem, but IDK

I just did this yesterday on my '99 F-250 and it fixed it! No more Airbag light for me! My mechanic wanted $140 to fix it and the only money I spent was on that little $3 light bulb from Auto Zone.

Thanks!
