Oil Pan

Well I have some bad news, My 2001 7.3 is leaking oil when its running so i brought it to a mechanic and he called me back today saying it might be the oil pan and if it is he will have to pull the motor to fix it. I was just wondering if this is true or im getting screwed i dont know much about working on these things but that seems like quite a bit of work just to get at the oil pan. Any imput or comments would be greatly appreciated thanks.

If it was your oil pan, it should be leaking all the time. If you can look under the truck and see where the oil is comming from. Alot of times it is coming from the top down, making it look like a oil pan. Also look in the valley if oil in valley may have other problems.
