fuel smell

i just bought a 01 7.3 a couple weeks ago and notice a faint fuel smell in the tab through the air vents when idle or when i come up to a stop. iv checked the valley and fuel bowl any other tips or do they all smell some through the vents when up at a stop or should you never smell anything in the cap raw or burnt ever?

you need to rebuild the fuel bowl. You shouldnt get ANY smell. Could be a slight leak to where its burn'n off / not enough, to show a puddle. Inspect the drain tube from underneath truck, above the axle, if wet, the drain valve is the culprit. Either way, rebuild thee entire assy....

It could also be an exhaust leak, that often gets reported as a raw diesel small. Check the up pipes behind the turbo, the often leak. You will know they are leaking if you see black soot streaks on the pipe.

If you do decide to rebuild the fuel bowl (I recommend it even if it isnt leaking-yet...) Click on "MY YOUTUBE VIDEOS" in my signature for a how to video.
