Knocking Sound at idle even sounds like a bit of a rattle at times

I have a late 99 f250 w/ 300k miles. i have the napa 6637 mod and got a 6 position php chip about 7 months. i usally drive it on the 80hp dd tune and the truck runs great , it throws "check engine" light at wot but goes away when i get off the pedal. yesterday i got on it pretty hard running late to work on the expressway for about 15min. later that afternoon i heard a knocking sound. I asked a friend with and got the typical "diesels sound like that" answer. so kept driving but iv notice it was getting louder, by the time i got home it was pretty loud. Its only at idle i tap the gas and goes away. today removed the intake tube to check the play on the turbo wheel" didnt think it was that but was told to check anyways" But turbo wheel is fine. removed belt and all pulleys and tensioner are fine. Harmonic balancer has no play either. now im getting a bit worried thinking it might be a rod bearing...?? but am going to have a friend put a scanner on and check out the injectors. At this point im not to sure what it is but would appreciate any advise anyone can give me i would hate for this to be a costly repair right now.. but would like to know if anyones gone thru this or something similar before??

the CEL at WOT is from your injectors running out of oil......

as far as the knock, if you can post up audio or video that may be helpful......could be a million anad one things. in my experience, things like rod bearings, etc dont go away when you tap the throttle......but thats in my experience YMMV.......

im going to try to get a video in a little bit, but do you think of the injectors running out of oil time after time again to do some permenant damage, or maybe even be the cause of this?

injectors can make some crazy knocking sounds. I may up some wires with an old valvecover gasket and a ew pig taletcso i can plugit into one side of the motor and unhook injectors one at a time.(while running) I had to locate knocking injectors.

Well i was told it was either the pinion that goes on the hpop shaft or the hpop. So i removed it, inspected but everything was fine. Now im going to replace hpop pump since i have a new one already, but in the mean while i ordered a new fuel pressure reg. cause mine broke removing the line, im going to clean out fuel filter assem. and replacing all new seals and replacing the ebpv tube and sensor since they were both corroded beyond recognition.lol so waiting for parts to come in today and will keep you guys posted on the outcome of the noise.
