Strange starting issues

I have a 99 sd I just put 2 new batts and glow plugs in before winter and now having starting issues. I get in turn the key forward let the plugs cycle then turn it over sometimes it will roll over 5 or 6 time slow and stop like the batterys are dead kick the key back and cycle the plugs again then turn it over it will turn over fast and fire right up ....now it not always the second try sometimes it take 3 or 4 but u know as soon as it rolls over once if its gonna go fast and start or if its turning over slow and your gonna have to try again.....Im hoping the starter needs rebuild but i have never had a starter do anything like this the wires and everything are clean and tight anyone have any other clue...truck does have 256k on it any input would be very helpful thanks.....these issue happen even on warm days to

Sounds like your starter is on it's way out. You could have it tested, but I don't know how many amps a good starter draws.

thats what im hoping ...I just have never had one get weak and and act like this normal when they start to go they just dont turn until u smack them a few time and they work fine for a day or 2 then they lock up tight....im gonna bench test it with a battery charger tomorrow and just take it to a local shop to be rebuild even if its not the problem it would hurt to have a fresh starter

do you have a soundsystem in your truck? i had this problem before, i didn't run power wire through firewall, i rigged in between doors, and the wire cut through and was grounding itself out on the door frame. just an thought incase it applies, doubt it helps though.

I have heard of the problem before but no im old school im still rocking the stock cd player...the starter is at a local shop being rebuild with some goodies so i should know if that was my problem soon
