Gear selector in R, starter engages

Hi. I have an '02 F350, and about half the time when I shift into reverse, the starter actuates. Most of the time it's for so short a time that it doesn't engage the flywheel, but every so often it does.

Any idea where to start looking?

Could be chaffed wires in your steering column. Should be able to pull off the covers and check the wires. Its a common problem that's an easy fix.
