multifunction switch

Every once in a while when I start my truck, the left turn signal light will stay on solid about half as bright. To get it to turn off I have to turn on the turn signal about 6 times. when it goes off I see a puff of smoke coming from the steering column. does this sound like the multifunction switch is going bad or the flasher going bad causing the switch to short out?

MFS, Change it before your whole truck goes up....I think there is a recall on it.
Its shorting out and CAN or WILL burn your truck up...and if you park in a garage....The house....Played that game with my best friend and his 01. Took out their house and all
