Starter makes grinding noise

I replaced bad napa starter with a new carquest starter and it sounds ruff, teuck normally starts in 1.5 seconds but other times it takes a full 3-4 seconds and during this time the starter sounds like its making a grinding noise kind of. Has anyone ever experienced this?

Make sure your batts are up to snuff. If they are weak or one is dead, the starter might not get enough juice to do the job.

We have other 7.3s and they all start quiet compared to mine. This may sound stupid but the starter makes an errrrrrr sound. Is this the type of noise you were hearing on ur toyota?

Agreed... Remove/replace. Too expensive an engine for cheap-china parts.
