01 7.3 psd running bad

hi
this is my first post here so i hope someone can help out
i live in Australia and even though the vehichle we bought was australian imported the dealers over here are rubbish and i am getting no assistance at all

we have a 2001 7.3l turbo deisel powerstroke, only had the vehicle 3 weeks and until now had no probs

yesterday, out of the blue the car started to run rough (loss of power) and a engine warning light came on and stayed on, didnt have much choice but to drive it home, ran rough all the way home, then jumped on the forum to see what i could come up with, after reading some posts, thought it may be the fuel water drainer.

got up this morning and drove for only about 5 mins to workand it ran perfectly fine, decided to drain the fuel anyways, this has not helped, after driving for about 10 mins this afternoon the engine light came on again, and then runs like rubbish (has no power)

it is going to be hard to get codes read here as the techs dont have much to do with the f series so was hoping someone may be able to give me some ideas

thanks in advance !!

IF YOU CAN GET THE CODES PULED THAT WOULD BE GREAT, IT SOUNDS TO ME LIKE THE SHORT HARNESS UNDER THE VALVE COVER HAS COME LOOSE, IF YOU HAVE CODE P1316 IN MEMORY CODES , IF WHOEVER IS PULING THE CODES CAN RUN AN INJECTOR BUZZ TEST THAT WILL TELL YOU WHICH SIDE VALVE COVER YOU NEED TO PULL OFF , IF HE CANT DO ONE , PULL ONE AT A TIME TILL YOU FIND WHICH ONE IT IS , ITS POSSIBLE TO HAVE A CAM SENSOR CAUSING YOUR CONCERN , BUT MORE THAN LIKELY THE SHORT HARNESS

You definately need to get the codes pulled or see if its throwing one... any tuner/module will usually read codes.

you might as well try the CPS first since its only $30... then if that does not solve the problem - go into the more in depth investigation to track down the problem. Good luck and welcome to the .ORG!!!

sounds to me like it was the same problem my truck was having. it turned out to be the passangerside undervalve cover. the scanner wasnt pulling any codes at first. it took a better one to pull the codes. the was a ford wedge i used to hold it in place.

hi
had a company come out with a portable scanner and he could not pull any codes either, ended up at a local ford service centre, same problem, not sure what he did in the end but did eventually pull a code, didnt say what that was but has isolated the problem to a electrical problem between the dash and front wheel arch on the passenger side (driver side in america)

will keep you posted
thanks
