fuel heater element check

Does anyone know if/how to check the fuel heater in the fuel/filter bowl. I have some build-up in there and think that the heater might be bad, thanks.

Mine went bad the other day, It shorts out and blows fuse #30, which also controlls the "Wait To Start " light. Unplugged my fuel heater yesterday, replaced fuse and it fired right up.
Started fine this morning , it was -13f last nite, plugged in of course.

Nice ride, I think that I will just turn the key to the run position for a min or 2(then back off) in the morning and then take the fuel bowl lid off and see if the diesel in the bowl is warm. New heater from ford is over 100.00 but 40.00 at my international dealer.

get the new improved 02-03 design and never look back. its not if it will fail, its when. so have a spare fuse in the truck. its a green 30 amp. the only problems i have heard about the fuel heater is when the solder breaks and the element shorts out, blowing the fuse....

I didnt get a part # but they priced me a new one at international for 40.00, that beats the 100.00 + ford price anyday.
