Power Steering Maintenance....

Is there an easy way to drain the whole power steering system? Mine, a 2003 has off colored brown tone fluid at 70,000 km (45,000 miles) and looks like it has never been changed.. %&^*! Bleep Bleep... I tried sucking it out with a oil pump, if you find the little slot you can get a good pint out, but a fire up and it turns brown again as you run the steering back and forth. Done it twice, so there must be a larger reservoir in the steering motor itself... Is there and easy way to pump it our or drain it below on the steering box..??

and Thank You, Lone Ranger

there is a rubber "dust cover" under the truck that is held on to the bottom of the radiator support with some push pins....and then there is one push pin on each side of the rad.....if you take those push pins out, you can take the two bolts that hold the small powersteering cooler off through the bumper just to the passanger side of center and drop the cooler almost to the ground. from there you can pull one of the lines for the cooler and drain most of the fluid, put it back on, fill it up, and do that one more time. u can just use regular old type F tranny fluid or mercon tranny fluid in that pump........on 6.0's you have to use mercon......Marc

What a great thing you are doing here on this forum helping all us Amateurs... At at what time of night? It must be night, as right now it is 1230 hours here (noonish) in Australia... I did not really expect an answer until tomorrow..

Any ways, thanks again from the Lone Ranger...
Now back from 8 days out Bush with the horses...
