Wait to start light problem solved
Just thought I'd pass on some info that could possibly help a lot of early 99 owners. I had a problem on my early 99 that could not be diagnosed by the dealer after 3 tries. The wait to start light would work intermittantly, this would not allow the truck to start, glow plugs, relay, fuel heater were fine. Finally after perusing hundreds of threads on this site, I decided to get rid of the XLE4 PCM. Stealer wanted 700 bucks, plus another $100 to program the PCM, total for a rebuilt XLE4, $800! I found a 2001 PMT1, and a PMT2 online, took out the XLE4, plugged in the PMT1, and viola, problem solved, and the truck now runs like a striped a-- ape, and in a month I have not had any more start light problems. Man what a difference, it runs better, starts better, (even in the cold) and I'm only out $300, (paid $150 each) total . I am carrying the PMT2 in my toolbox for a backup, and also for the times I tow my 20 ft trailer.

The PMT-2 has different shift points, firmer shifts, (due to what I understand is a higher clutch pressure in the trans), than the PMT-1. I have tried both of them. Most noticable is the 1-2nd shift, and the shift into overdrive, PMT-2 overdrive shift will happen after 45-49 mph, PMT- 1 will allow shift into overdrive after 40 mph. PMT-2 shift range seems better for towing a load.

No chip, but had a Diablo Predator programmer that installs programs by plugging into the diagnostic port.

I have the same problem on my 01. Ever since I put my chip in. Pretty sure I messed up the computer but who knows
