Loud whistle noise coming from turbo

When under a heavy load. Pulling a grade with 12K load. I am getting a loud whistle noise from the turbo. (at least I think it is coming from the turbo) If I let off on the throttle it will go away. It only happens if I am in the throttle for a long time. Maybe the EGT's at 11. (My sender is installed at the header not the turbo) Is there anything I can do to check the turbo?

Anybody else have this issue.

Thanks in advance.

Aaron

Take your intake tube off and check for play in the shaft, hopefully someone else will chime in with other ideas

what is your boost when that happens?
do you hear that when the trans downshifts or in same gear?

is it something like this video?

I am not sure what the boost is but I would guess around 15. It is always in the same gear and not shifting. As far as the video. it is not that sound for sure. I think that sound is the waste gate?

My sound is a high whistle and as soon as I left the throttle it goes way.

Thanks

Don't worry about it, turbo whistle is normal... If you think it's bad then ride in my truck or an 03 6.0.

My 38r is loud and is annoying as hell...

I missed the video clip... But if you hear that noise demonstrated in the video, then that is not good. The whistle on the other hand is no problem... I'll see if i can find a video so you can here it.

Listen for the turbo whistle, you can't miss it. Is this what you are hearing?

Its not that sound either. That is a constant sound. This is a way louder sound. almost like the turbo is getting air bypassed. It is not a normal turbo sound. It sound like its crying for help.

Keep the suggestions coming. Thanks for all your help.

get a sound clip cuz if it's not surge, or the usual turbo whistle then I have no clue...

Does it only do it when your EGT's get up in the 1,000's?

It will be hard for me to get a sound clip because I have only heard the whistle 3 times. It only happens under heavy load pulling a grade.

The EGT's might be at 1100 for about 5 to 15 minutes going up a grade.

If the boot to the turbo is lose or faulty could that make some unusual sounds?

Thanks guys for all your help.
