Starting Problem
I hope someone can help me on this. Last Sat. we went off in our '01 Excursion 7.3l PSD. Our trip was about 2-3 hrs. driving time. It ran perfectly. Shut it off & when I went back to start it w/in 1 hr --- it would turn over but not "catch". Checked the codes & nothing. So, we disconnectred the battery cables, reconnected, & it started. Later on that day, we shut it off & it wouldn't start. So, again we took the battery cables off again, reconnected, & it started.
The next day on a cold start, it started several times w/no problem. Anybody got any idea as to what is going on? |

Hey Dirty Diesel
It runs ok. Just have this starting problem. I thought if it was the sensor there would be a code showing the sensor problem. No code so no sensor problem. I also was under the impression that when the sensor went it would never ever start until replaced. Thanks George |

I don't believe it will always throw a code, and the problem can be sporadic. They're only ~$25 now, so it's a good idea to change it, cheaper than throwing other parts at it...

no the cps's are weird somtimes they will go out and never work again and somtimes the will go out and work again right away. ny truck had one go aout and it actually shut off while goin down the road then catch and keep right on chugin for a lil while.

When the truck is turning over, does it sound like you have a weak battery by any chance? 7.3 require a minumum amount of voltage before they will send a signal to the components needed to start. You may just need to clean your battery posts or replace a bad battery..

Pro star pony
I've got 2 brand new batteries. So, it's not them. If it were a bad battery removing the terminals & reconnecting them like I did to start it would not work. When you have 1 bad battery the lights will work, but there isn't enough oomp to turn the starter over. Thanks George |
