SES light came on then off while idling

On my 99 7.3 with 180k miles. Ts chip, muffler delete, and diy intake. Started up the truck this afternoon. Let it idle for a few seconds and looked down to see the SES light on. Put it in gear and started to drive away and it went out. Did not come on the rest of the day and all appeared normal. Hooked it up to scantool and there were no codes. Any idea what is or may have been going on? I've never had an SES light come on without throwing codes?

Thanks
Cory

Probably a injector problem you may have some starting to go bad and that will make the Ses light turn on and off.

I was wondering if it may be something like that. I jut don't understand why it wouldn't set a code.

Which scantool are you using? (most don't properly read our trucks....)

Yea that is true only those specifically for a 7.3 will work all other will say you have no codes. BUT even if you do get a scanner that works it still will not throw a code specifically saying your injectors are bad. It will say something like low fuel pressure or low something else. The only way to know for sure is to goto a stealership and have them diagnose it and perform a bus test. That will give you a definate answer no questions asked. There diagnostic is about $120.

Thanks for the replies. I was afraid I might have to visit the stealership to get any answers. I wonder if my new chip has anything to do with it?

No problem make sure you ask them how much they charge to diagnose it! If it turns out to be the injectors you can do it yourself and save thousands! It's definately a diy! Goodluck man!
