F550 will not shift out of park
Our 99 550 will not shift out of park. The dealer told us that it is some pins and bushings that are worn in the column. We picked up the parts but the schematic of the parts looks complicated. Any write ups on this that I can review before I drop the column?

might not even have to drop the column, just take the cover off and have a look where the lever connects to the collar.
Then get a mirror, and look up from the bottom end of the column, at the firewall, and you'll see a bell-crank assembly, held in place by a torx head screw. IF that screw comes loose, and it frequently does, it will cause the problem you are describing. Doesn't take long to repair either. |

It turned out to be the foot switch on the brake pedal. After 600k miles it was a little worn out.
