Well here's #2 for the books on my truck...

Just popped another code today: P0500 (VSS)

It started last night- the ABS light came on followed shortly by the OD light blinking off and on... I knew it wasn't tranny problems as it shifted fine and no heating issues...

So, where is the VSS??? lol, why can't the scanner tell you where on the vehicle the module/sensor/problem is! Guess i'll check for loose connections, dirty connections and finally check it's voltage etc???

The VSS is on top of the rear differential. Maybe check for a loose connection?

i dont know if cleaning them is really making them work again or not but you can take them out and clean them off. some times it works some times not. i dont know how it works though or if its just a loose connection and you tighten it up when you put it back together. i don't know. try it.

well, it's fixed.

I did what ya'll said first in hopes of savin' a few bucks- took off the connector reinserted it. Still coded- Took it out cleaned it about 7 times (apparently, it's magnetic? lots of shavings down there!) until no more shavings showed up. Still coded (all this after clearing the code each time)
Broke down and purchased one at the dealer.. A whopping 16 bucks - come to find out my buddies buddy works there.. can you say hookup!!
cleared it one last time and hasn't returned..

Glad to hear you got it fixed, and that it was easy.

Good dealer hookups like that are worth a lot.. wish I had one!!!
