02 7.3 runs like crap

mods in sig, was running fine all day prolly put 60or so miles on it and towed a buddies car as well no issues. left to go pickup oil for the womans xterra and half way there lost power, ran really rough and then stalled. sat a few min restarted and major power loss and horrible vibration while driving. stalled again pulling into parts store......NO CODES at all. after stalling 4-5 more times i got it home. has no power at all when it does run. smokes white while reving in nuetral. did basics checking fluids and such to no avail. only thing a bit odd to me atleast is the wires going to the icp sensor are really soft and squishy. please help cause my brother cant come down till monday night too look it over and i gotta get to work monday

Check fuel pressure. Sending unit in tank could be stopped up.

Can you get it on a good scan tool for diesels? Do a buzz test to see if the injectors are all firing. You could have burned off an under valve cover harness. So only 1 bank of cyls would be firing. Check that and possibly the IDM or injector drive module.

Strange that it's not throwing any codes. Also strange how that if you let it sit, it'll run till it dies again. Sounds like something is getting sucked up...chocking the motor, stalling it, and then as you let it sit, whatever it is settles back down, and allows you to start the motor again. interesting...

yea i know. theres roughly 1/4 tank in it and since i have owned it this is about the lowest its been. i flipped the key on a bit ago and hopped under the truck to listen to the pump and i think that might be part of the problem. it kept changing pitch while doing its priming cycle
