Alright, Here's a Wierd One!
2003 Crew Cab 7.3 PSD.... My interior lights come on with the remote locking, and courtesy light goes out when you lock it or on a timer when you leave it unlocked... OK... But when I open the doors, all four, any one, the interior lights do not come on... Ford here is saying..... Huh?
Can't find anything in the manual, no selector switches on the lights, just the ones to turn on the personal lamps but not the center light... When I roll up the dash dimmer switch to the top click, still no interior lights...Nada.. Nuttin.. And yet they work perfectly with the remote... I am sure you guys will have the answer, specially a PSD Techie whiz like Marc... Well Guys, Gals, ? Ford here is a bit primitive, PSDs are relatively rare, so their answer was duh... Huh? Neva herd of dat one... (spoken with a "Deliverance" accent) Regards from the Ranger in Oz....

I have had this problem before with different variables. Sometimes where the power windows won't work, or the radio will not turn off. You will need to pull some fuses and leave them out for about 2 hours. They are fuse 33, 35, 45 in the fuse panel under the dash. After you put them back in, if everything works ok again, then you will need to find another instrument cluster because it will happen again. Something inside the cluster is shorting out. If this does not fix the problem, I have another suggestion. You will need to remove the instrument cluster and unplug it for about 10 min. Then plug it in again. If this fixes the problem, then again, you will need to find another instrument cluster. If this still does not fix the problem let us know and I will research a little more.......

Now as to the disconnect of the fuses Lifted Man, after I returned it to Stock tuning, I disconnected all three batteries (one under for fridge in the bed) for 45 minutes to clear the codes before taking it to Ford... They scratched and said (in a Deliverance Georgia accent) Huh? dunno iff wee seen dat bafour... Ha! Would that have done it? Or should I disconnect the fuses or engine cluster as you said besides? BTW, for all those worried about codes detectable for Ford Warranty, I have it from a "Source" that the disconnect of all batteries for 45 minutes clears the codes... Leaving only a code that says the batteries were disconnect which you can tell them, and a "learning to drive" code that goes away in a short time... Anyway any further ideas on my interior pain in the bleep bleep bleep no interior lights problem? Best Regards from the Ranger in Oz... Come on down, we'll buy you a Beer or three... Ha! Is your fuse box under the dash about 75mm across and 100mm high? Or is it 200mm across and 100mm high? Just trying to figure out which wiring to go with. Also, when you open the door(s), does the light on the dash come on to tell you that a door is open, when the key is on.

Well, I've searched the electrical diagrams for the older style trucks and my best guess would be the GEM module. It is on the back of the fuse box under the dash. Take the fuse box out of the truck, remove the GEM module and look for signs of water intrusion. I have seen quite a few windshields leak water on the fuse box and cause all kinds of wierd things to go on. If all looks ok, then you will probably need another GEM. If you see signs of water, then your best bet is to replace the GEM and the fuse box, cause one will ruin the other...................
