Can a Superchip program modify computer MPG?

Hey guys, I have a question that has been bugging me. I have a 7.3 that got 11MPG around town and 13to 15MPG on the highway. I installed a Superchip program set at tow mode and I shot up to 18MPG in town and 22.5MPG on the highway. Can a programmer affect the computer display to read it is getting that kind of increase or do you realy think I am? It just seems way to good. Thanks for your input!

Hello Troy,
Da Ranger here in Oz. My Superchips ran the fuel mileage up from about 5 km per litre to 6 on the "Tow Safe" level... Mostly highway work.. Our conversion factor to miles per gallon is 2.83 so 5 X 2.83 = 14 miles per gallon and 6 X 2.83 = 17 miles per gallon.. That was "Grannying it around light footed", so about the best.... I think your figures are a little too high, something might be wrong there...

Other tests reported to us on the average only about a 1-2 mpg increase... I suspect something is wrong with your figures or something... It just sounds to much..

Cheers from Oz... (Australia)

Hey thanks for your insight Mr. Ranger! I should just do the math on a fill-up but at todays US price for diesel, I was just hoping the guage was right. Again, many thanks mate!

Assuming you are talking about the overhead readout in the lariats, mine does the same, when I put in my Evolution, it usually averages out about 26 mpg. precisely half what I am getting when running the 100 hp mode with a heavy foot

Hey Troyboy,

I have had two Superduty diesels with the computer displays. I always double check my mileage (old math style) against the computer. Running a diablo preditor, I most always get 1 to 2 miles per gal less than what the computer shows and it doesn't seem to matter what setting its on.

DO not go by the overhead lie-o-meter. Always hand calculate, ends all problems.
