Power Steering Pump or Gearbox?

I suspect I am starting to have an issue with either my power steering pump or my gearbox. Nothing specific or real bad yet, but I like to stay on top of it. Here are the symptoms (or potential symptoms)....

Steering "groans" (not the usual pump whine, but sounds like it is coming from the column) when turning the wheel a turn or two while stopped or going real slow.

It takes a good bit of effort to get it to turn and sometimes will be like it has no power steering at all if stopped. (I know it won't be GREAT with 37" tires, but none of my friends with SD's and 37's have the same issues).

Lastly if it's related, if I have to do an "emergency stop" (hammer on the brakes fast) the pedal will "kick back" at me and then work normal. (Not the ABS type, I'm familiar with that) Steady pressure as hard as I want to press is normal.

I'm thinking it's a weak pump especially with the brakes being weird, but I thought I would take opinions, not sure how to separate between the two. Thanks!

Well, even if no one knows at least we aren't alone. Haha. I'm leaning towards pump myself, but I don't want to spend the money and replace a part that isn't bad. Someone's gotta know.

I only have 35's and since the day I put them on over 5 years ago I haven't been able to steer while sitting still. I have not replaced the pump or any related components either.

Mine just started doing this. Got a new pump and new box from redhead is on the way. Hope it fixes it. I usually have to get off the brakes and blip the throttle to turn it now.
