EGT's higher with GTP38r turbo swap
So heres some basic info on my truck.
2003 7.3L. 160cc "Stage 2" single shot injectors from Rosewood Diesel 9.5" lift 4.30 gears 37" Toyos DP Tuner F5 running 80econo for single shot injectors International Bellowed Up-pipes ceramic coated Before the turbo swap, I was running about 750 degrees on my pre turbo egt and about 500 on my post turbo egt cruising 75mph. This one hill to and from work, i hit 950 pre turbo. I installed a brand new GTP38r and on the same roads, was doing 850-900 pre turbo and 600-650 post turbo egt crusing 75mph. Same hill to and from work, hitting 1050-1100 Nothing is different besides the turbo. Any ideas? I thought the 38r was supposed to drop egts, not raise them. havent talked to jody yet about the tuning, but i will get a live tuning done in a few months. |

I would say you have a boost leak somwhere.

strange thing is that im seeing 5psi while cruising, and havent really pressed the pedal all the way, but i can go over 20psi easy.
Can I still have a leak? |

yeah you might have a leak... check up pipes and all boots on the boost side

check for leaks Jay.... do a pressure test on it and make sure... did it seat correctly? you should be seeing way more than 20psi.... what exhaust housing did you go with too?

hm thats odd... i still think you should be seeing way more boost... buy a boost leak detector like the one bob sells on dieselsite... that will tell you for sure if your leaking.... might be a good idea to go with the 1.15 housing too... that would lower your egts a bit...

I have the dieselsite boost leak detector, and its awesome....
Just remember the one that fits the 38R is bigger than one for a stock turbo... Does your DP have a "stock" setting? If so, maybe set it there.... and see if you can hit 16? All 3 of the 7.3's Ive had topped out at 16 (stock- w no leaks). The intake plenums are super easy to bend/pinch when your putting on those 2 orange boots under the turbo. On my 550 one got pinched and leaked like a SOB at first....Ive heard that if your up pipes are leaking, you'll have high EGT's too... |
