My gear shifter is loose enough that it will travel horizontally all the way to the dash. What part am I missing that is supposed to prevent it from moving so far in that direction?
The end on the internal shaft is missing. Assuming you cant get it out of gear because of this. The broken piece is actually in your photo directly below the end of the shifter. Has a groove in it. Maybe the size of a dime. That piece is supposed to still be attached
Autozone stocks that whole shifter column. Its relatively cheap, 30$ if i remember correctly. When you remove it be careful of the small cable attached to the lower side! Its the cable that controls your gear shift indicator. And if you pull too hard you will break the little plastic bracket that is molded onto the cable and you will have to change that too!
I ended up ordering a new column, thanks for the info!
I was able to shift fine, it was just damn annoying that the handle was so far towards the dash.
