Smile CPS question...nothing critical

okie dokie...regarding hooing up a tach to a diesel...specifically a 7.3. I picked up a little gizzmo at Summit Racing the other day..a GMR induction pickup. connect it to either the #1 injector wire (OK if your tack has a "1 cyl operation mode) OR the main 12V feed to the injector harness (which at this point I have no clue as to where THAT is) However, and here's my question. Does the CPS read only 1 "hit" per rev telling the pcm (or whatever) that 1 particular cly is ready to fire and then the pcm has to figure the rest out on itsa own...OR does the CPS read 8 seperate "hits" ie for each cyl per each revolution? I'm asking this because if the CPS actually picks up and sends a seperate signal/pulse for each cyl, I could, a lot easier, simply attach the GMR pickup to a CPS lead and Viola, I have my tach feed. Sounds simple..probably not..lol. Any knowledgable techs, geniuses, shadetree mechanics, spiritual Gurus or store room clerks out there have any ideas/info?

I am almost positive it only picks up one per revolution. I would say the easiest way to get a tach on your powerstroke is to buy a AIC there is a link to one on ebay if that link doesnt work here is the item number 280089193317. Or I have seen a tach that picks up rpm off of the alternator. But the AIC does multiple functions and is well worth a couple hundred bucks. From ford they are like $800.
