So I replaced the FPR put a new fuel filter in and removed the fuel tank and took out the mixing chambers inside. Truck as 222,000 miles on it, the issue is it idles great at 62 psi but under heavy load it will dip near 30 psi but other times getting on it hard it only dips to 50psi. So is the pump just weak or is there a tank issue again? Also the pump makes a whine and like gargle sound which I found strange.
If you have an aftermarket pump I'd swap back to the factory bosch pump. A lot of the cheapo parts store pumps give problems. If the pump is original I'd change it. You can find the factory replacement bosch online fairly cheap
Motorcraft fuel pump is the same as the Bosch fuel pump.
Your In-line fuel pump is probably weak.
Check fuel lines to the fuel bowl (loose or leaking seals).
Fuel filter changed at ~15k miles. You already did the pressure check (should stay 50-60 psi), below 50psi = replace pump or look for leaks or plugged up fuel lines.
Replace it. Motorcraft uses the Bosch in-line fuel pump ($90-$140) from Rockauto or partsgeek.
Ford wants ~$350 for the same Bosch fuel pump that they wrap in a Motorcraft stamped steel bracket.
Symptoms of bad or weak fuel pump:
1. Engine dies and there are no codes.
2. Engine vibrations, engine is starving for fuel.
3. Hesitation on acceleration.
4. Clunk noise on acceleration after release of break pedal.
5. Intermittent no start - no codes (just like the CPS).
6. Increased engine knock.
7. Loss of engine power.
Also, make sure you have ~1/2 a tank of fuel, to rule out the fuel pick up seals letting air [/U]into the fuel line (It causes a heavy knock on the engine).
Nothing else.
