electrical starting problem
Need some help please!! Have 02 F-350 7.3 problem is sometimes when you go to start it will not turn starter are should I say energize solenoid. I can jump solenoid and it will start. I was thinking I had a relay, fuse are short. And I have checked them time and time again, but still having problem. I just noticed that it acts like it has something to do with the shifter sometimes i can pull up on it and it will start. Queston were to start? Shifter is feeling like it is a little loose but would it be in the colum are would it be in the trans control switch? Just don't feel up to tearing every thing apart that I dont have to!! Help

You may need to adjust the switch on the side of the trans. Set park brake, chock wheels, put trans in neutral. Pop the cable linkage off the arm thats on the side of the trans. Remove the 15 mm nut, ( hold the lever with pliers, do NOT turn the nut with the linkage untill it bottoms or stops turning, you can break internal parts.), remove the lever, you'll have to wiggle it to break it loose. The switch has 2 parts, external bolted to case, internal slides over the manual shaft. You should see 2 hash marks right above the shaft. they should be lined up. If not, loosen 2 bolts that hold the neutral switch to case and turn it either way untill they alighn. REmember, the trans has to be in neutral for these to alighn. Tighten switch and install linkage. If you still have the start problem, the switch may be bad or you have other problems. Preston |
